Reconstructing the Bridge Between You and Your Beloved
by Holly Schwartztol, Ph.D.

What exactly is intimacy in a committed relationship? What does it mean when we say that we feel disconnected from our partner? Is this about sex? Communication? Respect? Yes, it's all those things. And there are countless approaches to reconstructing the bridge between you and your beloved.

Although I am not a sex therapist, I have been a psychologist in private practice in Miami for over twenty years. Frequently couples say that sexual intimacy has been worn down over the years of a long relationship. You know what happens. The kids tire you out. There are money issues. It feels like no matter what you say, you are misunderstood. So you go for marital counseling and often that helps. And yet, it seems that there is still something missing. You feel a sense of loss and can't quite get that sense of closeness that you long for.

I have found that helping couples reconnect at an energetic, soul level is critical. Once the energetic connection is ignited, many of the other issues come together much more easily. As couples energetically open their hearts to each other, it's as if they melt into one another and recapture the original force that brought them together. It astounds me how quickly couples can achieve new levels of intimacy when they actually feel the flow of energy between them. They can then handle the other issues with much more ease, respect and caring.

As a psychologist I am always interested in learning new ways to help clients. Perhaps you've heard of tantric sex. Tantra, which in Sanskrit means "to weave or expand," is an ancient energy system from India, a form of yoga, which expands awareness and increases a deep sense of spiritual connection. It allows people to sense their own energy and then to blend energies with another.

Tantra teachers Diana & Richard Daffner explain techniques to enhance and rejuvenate committed relationships. In a group workshop format, couples practice Tantra Tai Chi, easy and meditative qigong-style movements that enhance the powerful energy centers within each member of the couple. Partners learn to connect sexually and spiritually with each other and to incorporate loving rituals and exercises that they then practice in privacy on their own. Couples learn to have fun with each other and to bring joy and delight back into their relationships.

Try a Tantra workshop. You will be pleased with the changes you experience.
